Mackay (adjourned game)— White played the English opening, and the %ame was played on irregular lines after. A good game,,resulted till about the 24th move. Then Black' gained a piece and, pressing his opponentj compelled his resignation on the 31st move; Cocks v.Plea'-finta (Qneen's Gambit declined)— A fairly «. von game. Mr Pleasants, however, won two Pawns eventually^ which enabled him to score a win on the 33rd move.' Lelievre v. AndersenWhite opened with the English opening. The game was very even right through, careful play being.shown on both sides. It was'drawn . on .the,s4th move. Mouat y. Hookham— This was a King's Gambit declined. White sacrificed a Rook for a Bishop, by which he gained a winning position, afterwards gaining three Pawns and Rook; and Mr Hookham resigned. Mackay v. Barnes (Centre Counter Gambit). White maintained his Gambit Pawn, to the end, but agreed to draw on the 29th move. Pleasants v. Lelievre (Queen's Gambit declined)— A good game resulted up till the 27th movej when, by a number of exchanges. White gained an advantage, and keeping up_ the attack was able to declare mate in three on his 35th move.' Pearee iv. - Hookhant— Mr Pearce offered the King's Gambit, which, his, opponent declined. A carefully: conducted game ensued, but white lqst a Pawn, and Black eventually woni The only'games that have to be played will* be finished on Monday. They are as follow: — Pleasants v.
