The average rainfall in Wellington last year was one of the heaviest that has been recorded here. There were 184 wet days, the total rainfall being 6r42in. The Lands and Survey Department is sending a first-class collection of handsomely framed photographs of New Zealand scenery to the Australian Industrial Exhibition at Ballarat.
The immigration ,and emigration returns for last month show a net gain to the population of 1144- souls, the arrivals numbering 2283, and the departures 1139. The returns for the whole year show a net gain of 946, aa compared with 2253 in the previous year. , A gazette extraordinary issued to-day, further prorogues Parliament till March 12.
A recruit who joined a regiment at "Windsor stood 6ft Gin and took a 15 boot.
