Heavy draughts were unrepresented. Prices were — Medium dranghts .£l2 to .£16 155, light harness horses .£8 to dfilO 15s, hacks £1 to .£9 15s. PIGS AND POULTRY. There was a small entry of poultry at the yards on Saturday, the supply being hardly equal to the demand. All young birds sold well. Geese showed a decline. Prices were— Hens 2s 3d to. 3s, pullets 2s 3d to 4s 9d, roosters 3s 6d to 4s 6d, ducklings Is 9d to 3s, ducks 2s 6d to 3s 3d, geese 3s 6d to 4s Gd ; turkeys— hens 8s to 10s, gobblers 15s to 20s. In pigs business was fairly brisk. Prices realised were — Weaners 4s to 7s 6d, stores 7s 9d to 15s, porkers 20s to 255. No baconers were entered. On the high desert -plains of Algeria the atmosphere is so clear and translucent that the satellites of Jupiter are visible to the naked eye, and the craters of the moon on the dark surface of that luminary can be oxamined with a telescope.
