THE CHRISTCHURCH ELECTION.
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION.
A full meeting of the Council of the National Association was held at the rooms, Morten's Buildings, on Saturday evening. It was stated that it was now certain that a bye-election would be almost immediately held, for Christchurch, and the candidates already announced were Messrs R. M. Taylor, T: E. Taylor and J. L. Scott. Eeference. was made to the speeches of the Premier and the Minister of Education at , the presentation made to the latter by the Ballance Liberal Association, in which speeches it was expressly stated that the Government had only half completed their programme. In view of the injury which the Government policy was considered to have caused to all classes in the colony, the Council viewed with alarm the carrying out of th& other half of the policy, and it was, therefore, resolved unanimously that Mr Charles. Lewis should be asked to contest the seat * in the interests of the National Association. Mr Lewis, on being informed of the decision of the Council, promised to consider the matter, and to give a reply shortly. Communications were received from outlying districts, showingthat the, popularity and strength of the Association were greatly on the increase, and, the Secretary was instructed, in reply to requests, to send out large numbers of application forms. , The meeting then closed. .■;■ r. -■• .
