The tribunal of Boma has made enquiries into Major Lothaire's action, and he will afterwards be tried by the Superior Council of the Congo Free State at Brussels. The Congo State has paid an indemnity of a hundred thousand francs to the nativeß of Stokeß* caravan. UNSEATED. Mr T. Chamberlayne, the Conservative member for Southampton, has been unseated because his agent paid a yoter a florin for his railway fare. DEATH OF Gr. A. SALA. George Augustus Sala is dead. THE VENEZUELAN FRONTIER. WASHINGTON, Dec. 7. Lord Salisbury's refusal to refer the whole Venezuelan difficulty to arbitration is seriously regarded here. A BANK SCHEME. The general opinion in the city is favourable to the proposals of the English, Scottish and Australia Bank. The Times considers that they deserve th f e favourable consideration of the shareholders. The Standard thinks it possible to say much in favour of the scheme. The Chronicle says that the position of the bank is undoubtedly strong, though there is uncertainty as to the future, and it believes that if the scheme passes probably other banks will endeavour to make the same arrangement. CHURCH EXTENSION. Dec. 8. The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge has voted £300 for the Piddington Church extension. A FILIBUSTERING- EXPEDITION. A strong filibustering expedition, which evaded the British gunboats, has started from Jamaica for .Cuba. A RAILWAY FOR CHINA. SHANGHAI, Dec. 8. The Emperor of China, has ordered the construction of a double line of railway from Pekin to Tientsin, at a cost of three million taels. SENSATIONAL REVELATIONS. PARIS, Dec. 8. Arton's revelations have caused a sensation in Paris. M. Recard, speaking in the Chamber, denied their truth, but admitted that he gave an informer, who offered 'to disclose certain papers, a letter to an agent in London requesting him to negotiate for them.
