Ballance Liberal Association.
The fortnightly meeting of this Assooiation was held in the Walthara Library | last night. Mr J. H. M'Millan occupied I the chair, and there was a good attenj dance. Five new members were elected, and two candidates were nominated. The Association, on the motion of Mr Sim, passed the following resolution, which was ; telegraphed to the Premier last night — "That the Ballance Liberal AeßOoiation commends the Government for the prompt, firm and statesmanlike manner in which it has dealt with the position of the Bank of New Zealand, and trusts that the recommendations of the Select Committee will be approved by the House ; also that this Association believes that the wisdom and foresight displayed by the Government in this matter has averted a national crisis/ A discussion took place on the eight hours' question, and, on the motion of Mr D. Luck, the following resolution was passed :—" That this Association considers that the time has arrived when a Compulsory Eight Hoarß* Bill should become law, and that it should apply to all trades, professions and callings. Also, that this Association do its best to try and bring about a conference of delegates to thoroughly discuss and devise Borne scheme that will materially assist the Government in bringing about the end desired." The Government Local Bodies Bill will be discussed at the next meeting of the Association.
