fPROM OUR QWH CORRESPONDENT. J WELLINGTON, Auousr 30. A' STATE BANK. In committee on the Bank Bill this afternoon, Mr G. W. Russell moved an amendment to Clause 1, bo aB to test the opinion of the House on the question of instituting a State bank. He proposed 1 that the short title be amended so as to declare the Bank of New Zealand a State ; bank, and intimated that if that were carried, he would move that progress be reported, so as to allow of the whole Bill being recast in accordance with the State bank idea. Mr Coilics supported the : amendment.
