Tukbday, August 27. : AFTERNOON SITTING. The Counoil met at 2.30 p.m. PETITIONS. The fruit-growers of iusklftcd presented » petition against the South Australian treaty entered into by the Hon J. G. Ward. The Hon W. D. Stewart presented a petition from the inhabitants of Dunudin against the Servants' Recintry Offices Bill. WAQKS ATTACHMENT. The Wages Attachment Abolition Bill oitno freni tho House, and wna read a first time. CONBTAB&3 DAVIS's CASE. The Hon W. M. Bolt asked the Attor-ney-General if the Governraout would be prepared to reconsider too caao cf Constable William Davis, of Danedic, lately dismissed the service, with a view of reinstating him to the extent of giving him employment in some lower grade of the service than he formerly occupied. The Attobney-Genkbal, replying, read a report from the Commissiouer of Police, which stated that Davis had bjen guilty of aa act which necessitated his dismissal from the force. SERVANTS' REGISTRY OFFICE*}. The Colonial Secretary moved tha second reading of the Servants' Registry Offices Bill, introduced into the House by the Minister of Labour. The Hon W. D. Stewart pointed out several defects in the Bill which he thought might be remedied in committee. He thought that the Acb required amendment, as it was calculated to impose hardships upon servants. I The Hon Dr Pollen opposed the Bill, Vhich he regarded as not being required, j The Bocond reading was agreed to on the Voices, and the Bill was referred to the : Labour Bills Committee. DUN EDI N DRAINAGE. The Hon W. D. Stewabt moved thai; the Council should insist upon its amend* ments in the Dunedin Drainage and Sewage Bill. This wsa agreed to, and the Hona W. H. Reynolds, Q. M'Lean and W. D. Stewart were appointed to draw up reasons for so insisting. Subsequently the committee's report was brought up and adopted. COUNTIES ACT AMENDMENT. The Counties Act Amendment Bill was committed. A new clause, moved by the Hon T. Kelly, itd purpose being to alter the boundaries of adjoining County Councils by agreement, was agreed to, and the Bill waa amended and reported. BIVERS ACT AMENDMENT. The Rivera Acb Amendment Bill was committed, reported without amendment and passed. The measure refers only to the borough of Kaitangata. Toe Couucil adjourned to 7.30 p.m. to receive the report of the Bank of New Zealand Committee.
