♦ [FCB Paißß ABBOCIA-riON.] AUCKLAND. August 16. The Tararu Creek Gold-mining Company has received a cable message notifying that the Company has been floated in London, with a working capital of £15,000, and a reserve capital of £15.000. The Company includes the Norfolk, Dunedin, Sunbeam and Excelsior ground, at Tararu. WELLINGTON, August 16. Five claims have been pegged off at Karon", and two more have been applied for. All except one are above the dam, j and the waahinga are likely to affect the reservoir. The stuff would all have to be removed by hand. The engineer saw the colour of gold in several claims. Mr Gordon, Inspector of Mines, thinks that better results will be obtained by further prospecting. The Council will take measures to protect the water supply, and will visit the scene before finally deciding abous the leases. INVERCARGILL, August 16. The action by the Inveroargill Garrison Band to recover £100 from the Contest Committee, being the first prize in the late contest, is now proceeding. The band was disqualified by the Protest Committee, but served a notice on the Conteat Committee not to pay out the prizes, which have been held ever since. This case will finally decide the matter. • j
