VILLAGE SETTLEMENT
» THE LAND AT WOOLSTON. . Applications for ihe small allotments in the Boimata settlement at Woolaton closed yesterday. For the twenty-four sections, which range in area from one acre to three acres, there were forty-five applicants, representing no fewer than 298 applications. The ballot took place at the Land Board Office at 11 a.m. to-day, with the following results :—
Sections 8, 4, 5, 6, 10, 10a, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 22 are still open for application.
A traveller who has been as far south as Patagonia, and as far north as Iceland says that mosquitoes are to be met with everywhere. The African ice works at Cape Town have been furnishing the Queen with bouquets of rare native flowers frozen fresh in blocks of ice.
