THE RECENT BURGLARY.

♦ MESSES TRENT BEOS. On the night of August 8 Messrs Trent Bros.' warehouse in Durham Street waß broken into, about 2801db of tobacco, valned at £60 being atolen. The detectives a day or two ago obtained a clue as to the whereabouts of the tobacco, which was stated to be in a house in the Caledonian road. The night before last Detectives Maddern and Marsack', who have been working for thirty hours at a stretch on the case, tracked the " suspects " to within about fifty yards of the house, but then missed them. Last night however, they were Buccessful,\ and Detectives Henderson, Maddern and Marsack recovered about 1801bs of the tobacco in an empty houae. The tobacco was con--1 cealed in a curious recess in the upstairs ! portion of the house, and was only found ! after a close search. A. email springbalance was fonnd with it. Detectives Maddern and Marsack waited at the house from two o'clock till eight o'clock on the chance of the men coming there. The two men, however, were arrested at the Occidental Hotel about 10.30 this morning. They were in the bar at the time, and were surprised by the detectives and at once handcuffed and taken to the lock-up. The prisoners, it is said, did not go near the house in Caledonian Road at all in the day time, bnt the theory of the police is that they were in the habit of going there at night and bringing away the tobacco in small portions.
