POLITICAL NOTES.
[FBOM OUB OWN COBRE6PONDBNT.] WELLINGTON, August 14. PETITIONS, Mr Collins presented a petition to-day on behalf of George Tibbs, of Christchurch, j who asks for a compassionate allowance on account of his inability through asthma to make a living at fishing. A petition was presented by Mr Maslin on behalf of Thomas Tilson, who desires the Government to grant him relief on acoount of injuries received by his colliding with a telegraph post on the main South Road near Eating. The Kail way s Committee, on the petition of W. Barnettand others, representing 100 carriers, respecting the non-renewal of the Christchurch railway Contract, states that the only satisfactory way to deal with the question of railway cartage is for the Railway Department to deal with a responsible party, and reoommends that the petitioners should organise themselves, tender as a body and divide the work afterwards. The A to L Committee, reporting on W. A. Gray's petition to be placed in possession and management of his estates, refers the matter to the Government for consideration. As no fresh evidence has been placed before the M to Z Committee in connection with the petition of T. Walsh, of Asbbarton, it sees no reason to depart from the decision it arrived at in 1893, viz., that it has no recommendation to make.
