The Salvation Abut Guabdb' Band.— The Guards' Band called at Timaru, and stayed from Saturday till Tuesday. Their playing wbb much admired, and the Army meetings were largely attended during their visit. Cust Pbesbttebian Chusch. —On Thursday evening the Rev D. D Rodger conducted service in the Summerhill schoolroom. ■ There was a good attendance. As opportunity offers other meetings will be held. Miss K. Webster, who for a number of years has efficiently carried out the duties of organist in connection with the Cust congregation has been compelled, on account of ill-health to relinquish her position. Cust Institute. — The monthly meeting of the committee of the Cast Institute took place on Monday evening; present— Rev D. D. Rodger (presiding), MeBSiB E. W. Cooper, <*. Wayland and A. D. Hassall. It was resolved that the Librarian should be authorised to purchase books to the value of five pounds. Those present agreed to take action in regard to devising means to liquidate a liability owing on the building account. Several accounts were passed for .payment, and a number of minor matters attended to. ABHBUBTON BOBOUGH COUNCIL. — The fortnightly meeting of the Asbburton Borough Council 'was held on Monday; present — The Mayor (Mr J. Scaly), and Councillors, Bird, Brooke, Collins, Cuthbertson, Thomas, Paul, Orr and Reid. The Mayor reported the overdraft to ba .£1448 2a Id, and tbe receipts since last meeting £73 Bs. It was agreed, on the application of the Ashburton County Council, to suspend the repairs on the traffic bridge over the river on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The Engineer's report was read, and considered satisfactory. He stated that there were thirty-seven men at present working on the unemployed relief works. The Banger reported that about fifteen sheep dogs had been registered outside the borough, although their owners resided in the borough. The Ranger was instructed to prosecute in some of these cases. The Council then sat as a Domain Board. It waß decided, on the application of Mr R. M. Cuthbertson (for the Sports Association), to erect a verandah between the two pavilions in the JDsmain, the Association to find the material.
