Tuesday, August 13. AFTERNOON SITTING. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. OTAGO DOCK TBUBT. The Local Bills Committee recommended that the O:ago Dock Bill Bhoald be allowed to proceed. The second reading was fixed for next day. PETITIONS. The Poblio Petitions Committee reported that it bad no recommendation to make on petitions from Auckland relative to the Shop and Shop Assistants Act Amendment Bill, and from a number of residents praying that scriptural lessons should be read in the State Schools. BILLS. The Family Homes Protection Bill and Mining Companies Act Amendment Bill passed their final stageß. The Reprint of Statutes Bill waa further considered in committee. Clause 3 was immaterially amended, and the Bill was reported, as amended. The Hon C. J. Johnston moved the second reading of the Wellington City Suburbs Water Supply Bill. Motion agreed to. The Puriri Reserves Sale Bill (Hon W. T. Jennings), Threshing Machine Owners' Lien Bill (Hon W. 0. Walker), Counties Act Amendment Bill (Hon W. M'Cullough) were read a second time. The, Hawkesbury Borough Council Beseives Vesting Bill passed committee and .' all its stages. - ,The\Hon W. M'Cuilough moved the second reading of the Coal-mines Bill. 1 The Hon Or Pollen moved as an amendment that the Bill should be read ft second time that day six months. The amendment was carriod and the Bill lost by 20 to 9. The following is the division list :— Ayss (against the amendment) 9: Hons Kelly, Eigg, Jenkinson, Jenninga, W. C. Walker. Feldwick, M'Cullough, , Montgomery and Sir P. A. Buckley. Nobs (in favour of the amendment) 20— Hons Reynolds, L. Walker, Eichardson, Whitmore, Bonar, Scotland, Barnicoat, Bolt, Swanson, Shrimski, Pharazyn, Willfanu, Kerr, Taiaroa, Macgregor, Acland, Johnston, Grao, M'Lean and Dr Pollen. The Hon W. M'Cuii.ough moved the second reading of the Criminal Code Bill 1 (No. 2). Its object was to enable the convict, Louis Chemia, to apply to the Court of Appeal for a new trifi.l. The debate wbb adjourned, and the Council adjourned to next day.
