A Sensational Conspiracy Case.
«_s [Special to Pbxbs Association.] SYDNEY, August 9. A sensational conspiracy case has been occupying the court. Last year Judge Wiodeyer granted Thomas Richard Bafcler a decree nisi for divorce from his wife on the ground of her adultery with George Williams, whose real name has since been ascertained to be Charleß Davis. Subsequent revelations led the Crown to prefer against Butler, Davis and a woman named Peako a charge of conspiracy to falsely accuse Mcs Butler. Evidence was submitted to prove that Davis and Peake had been paid by Butler to lead his wife astray in order that he might obtain a divorce. All three accused were found guilty, the jury adding a rider that Mrs Butler had not committed the offence for which a divorce was granted. Butler and Davis were sentenced to seven years and Peake to four years' imprisonment. Eope, who acted as solicitor for Butler in the divorce proceedings, has also been arrested on a charge of conspiracy.
