CHRISTCHURCH DIOCESE.

The Church News reports that at a meeting of the Standing; Committee on July 9, it was agreed that it be a recommendation to Synod that .£IOO of the estimated surplus income of the Bishopric Estate for the current year be allotted to defray, as may be necessary, the cost of providing for the duties, week-day as well as Sunday, of invalided clergymen in the diocese, by means of other clergymen acting for the occasion bb bishop's chaplains. Second writs for Longbeach and Te Ngawai having been returned void, the committee appointed Mr William Jameson as synodsman for Longbeach, and Mr A. R. Bloxana as synodsinan for Te Ngawai. Letters of application for grants in aid of building a church at Fairlie and a schoolroom at Eakaia were read, and it was resolved that the applicants be referred to the Synod, and informed that notice of motion for a money grant must be made one month before the session. The Registrar also repotted that Mr George Baker, after long service as diocesan clerk and i book-keeper, had been compelled by failing health to resign. Mr Thomaß Major Gee was appointed dioceean clerk and accoan- j tant in Mr Baker*s room. The estimates for the current year of the Church Property Trust General Eatate were submitted, with the statement that the trustees would be asked whether, by spreading the debtor balance from last year over the next two y«-arß, they would provide i>l67 more than the J82651 shown aa available for the needa of the dioceße, in order that the ASO grants mightlbejpaid in full.
