Entkbtainment. — A concert and dramatio entertainment was given to a large and appreciative audience in the Opera House last evening, in aid of the funds of the Mount Magdala Asylum. Songs were given by Misses Maud Hewson and Hayward, Mrs Hayden, and Messrs E. J. Lovell, C. Edgar, A. F. Young, C. Bead and Master Loader ; duets by Miss L. Thompson and Mrs Edgar, recitations by Mr Eyan, a sailor's hornpipe by Master Loader, and selections by Mr H. Koaelter'a : orchestra. The performance concluded ! with the comedy My Turn Next, by the Hibernian Amateur Dramatiu Club. Mounted Bifz.cs. — The Canterbury Mounted Rifles gave a very pleasant " social " in the rooms of the Kingsley Club last night. There was a good attendance of members and their lady friends. Among those present were Captain Palairet, Lieutenants Snow and Slater, Staff Sergeant-Majors Barrett and Purvis, and several members of other crrps. The decorations of the room— flags, with a few lances and other weapons— were effective, and the scene presented by the blending of uniforms and bright-coloured dresses waa a decidedly pretty one. Mr H. Boasiter'i quadrille band played an oxoellent programme of new music. Mr L. J. Smith catered very satisfactorily. Danoing waa kept up till a late hour. Sergeant-Major Berland was a very capable M.C.
