SOFIA, July 81. The Turks have recaptured Menlik, taken by the Macedonians, and are gradually repressing the insurgents. Reports have been received that the rebellion in Macedonia has failed. The Turks systematically stopped the supplies of food and water, by which meaDß the hillmen were compelled to descend to the valleys and fight in the open, where the larger proportion of them were routed. A section of the insurgents, however, succeeded in reorganising. RUSSIAN DESIGNS. ST PETERSBURG, July 81. The Novosti urges that the alliance of Russia with Abyssinia will easily secure a coaling station in the Red Sea, and prevent its domination by the English. France must increase her fleet in the Indian Ocean, and Russia in the Mediterranean. Massowah : must be converted into a joint harbour, and the Italians ejected. RIOTING IN LISBON. LISBON, July 31. The local Press accused the Jesuits of stealing children, and an infuriated mob took possession of the streets and brutally attacked and wounded any priests they caught.
