AN INTERESTING RELIC.
Mr Drew, on behalf of the Wanganui Museum has (says the Advocate), written to Mr O. Y. Lethbridge, of Turakina, with a request that the latter will donate to the institution of which he has charge, a flag, which is the subject of considerable hittorical interest. It is the first flag that was captured from the Maoris after the outbreak of hostilities in Taranaki, and was taken by Mr Lethbridge under circumstances of great personal peril. The flag-staff, from which floated an enormous red flag, had been set up by the Maoris immediately outside the palisading of the pab, and the firing had cut the ropes in Buoh a way that it had fallen over and was drooping. Mr Lethbridge decided to capture it, and made a dash for it with a few companions, under a hot fire from the Maoris, and succeeded in pulling it down and riding unhurt into camp with it. There the aot was greeted with, enthusiasm by the Imperial officers, many oC whom out pieces from it as a memento of the occurrence. What is now left of it Mr Lethbridge will probably present to the museum in compliance with Mr Drew's wish.
