THE BURNING MINE.
[Special to Fsbbs Association.! SYDNEY, Jtjlt 30. There is little change in the condition of the mine. A large amount of smoke is still issuing from the centre, where drills are being bored to enable water to be poured into the supposed Beat of the fire; bat in other parts the volume has greatly decreased. Several hoses have been stopped, as it is considered that a diminished supply is now sufficient to cope with the flames. Upon the advioe of Dr Bobertson, a mining expert, the carbonic acid gaß prepared will not be brought into use unless the fire shows signs of spreading to the open stopes. It is believed that the gas would find its way into parts of the mine untouched by the fire, and do much damage. Blasting operations for the purpoae of Bmotheiing the flames are being continued, but it is thought that the worst is over, and that though it may continue to smoulder for some time it will not spread.
