THE ELECTIONS. [Special to Pbess Association.] LONDON, Jult 27. The return of Mr Nicoll for Argyll is a Unionist gain, not a Liberal, as first mentioned. The sitting members have been returned for Boswood, Wick, Northwest Norfolk, Tavistock, Osgoldcrosß, Clackmannan and Kinross, Launceston, Flint, North Meath, Haddington, Buckrose and South Fermanagh. The following have been elected :-— Mr Woolifk, Tory, for Wells; Mr Murnghan, anti-Parnellite,, for MidTyrone; Mr Beaumont, Liberal, for Hexham; Mr -Gold, Liberal, fop Saffron Walden. Tory gains are: — Mr W. Morrison for Shipton, Mr Joulding for Devizes, Sir Honry Havelock Allan for South-east Durham. Mr Harry M'Calmont beat Sir Gt. Newnes, Liberal, for Newmarket, An election riot broke out in Dunstable, and the Eiot Act waß read. The disturbance was quelled only on the arrival of police reinforcements from London. The Right Hon J. Chamberlain writes to a correspondent that the chief object of his accepting the Colonial Secretaryship was to endeavour to devise a scheme to bring the colonies and the Mother Country closer together. The sitting member for Boss and Cromarty has been returned. The Tories gain Inverness, where Mr Bailiie was returned. Mr Killbridge, anti-Parnellite, beat Colonel J. P. Nolan for North Gal way. The. returns so far give the TJnioniatß 410, the Liberals 175, the Parnellitea 12, the anti-Parnellites 69 — total 66Q. Four returns have yet to come;
