| Pigeon Flying. — The Christchurch Pigeon-Flying Club flew off a raoe from Waikari on Saturday. Owing to favourable weather, the birds made a record. The winner was Mr Butterfield's White Flight, who flew the distance of 81,207 yds in the fast time of 46niin SOsec. The Club desires to thank the Station-maßter at Waikari for liberating the birds. The following are the results *— Mr Butterfiold'a White Plight. 1746 yds per mm j Mr Atkinson's Black Cloud, 1722 yd s; Mr Sime's Cracker, 1704 yd s; Mr Watson's Beaconswell, 1703yda ; Mr Cliff's Silver Grey, 1701 yds; Mr Buchanan's Rita, 1696 yds; Mr Gerard's Flintlock, 1687 yd s; Mr Ayling's Casino, 1675 yd s; Mr Hasell's Tarcutta, 1671yds j Mr Howison's Peep o' Day, 1669 yds; Mr Unwin's Raven b wing, 1662 yds; Mr Smith's Alma, 1599 yds; Mr Pcarse's Patron, 1592 yds; Mr Clarke's Blue Boy, 1565 yds; Mr Cooke's Fiteroy, 1547 yds. A show of Homers was held in the afternoon, resulting as follows :— Class A, Homer oock ; twenty-four entries— Mr Ayling 1, Mr Smith 2, Mr Atkinson 3. Class B, Homer hens ; twelve entries— Mr Rowe 1, Mr Kingsford 2, Mr M'Laren 3. It is stated that moßt of 5000 horeee Bhipped from America to Europe reoently were intended for slaughter aB food.
