DUNBDIN, June 25.
Some of the organisations connected with churches have passed motions protesting against the proposed, lottery of the Bank of New Zealand Globo assets.
At a meeting of the committee of the Beform Association, the following resolution was paesed : — "That thie Association views with alarm the proposal to set up a lottery for the purpose of disposing of the property of the New Zealand Estates Company, and denounces the /proposal as essentially immoral and calculated to demoralise the whole community and to degrade the Legislature of the colony iv the eyes of the world as. a patron and protector of the vice of gambling." A , oopy of the resolution ia to be sent to the Premier and the looal representatives. It | was also resolved— "That the committee rejoices to learn that the Premier has given notice of an amendment to the Criminal Code by which the age of consent is to he raised to sixteen, and expresses an earnest hope that the amendment will have the cordial support of aU members of both Houses ;" " That this committee strongly protests againßt the proposal of Mr Lawry that consultations be made legal in New Zealand, believing that no form of gambling ahould have the sanction of the State."
