Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association.
The annual general meeting of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held ac Ashburton on Tuesday afternoon. Owing to the very inclement weather there was a very small attendance of members. Mr David Thomas was voted to the chair, and suggested that the meeting ahould be adjourned for a week, but the majority present decided in favour of going on with the business. The annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted, on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr M. Friedlander. Mr G. A. M'Lean Buckley waa elected president of the Sooiety for the ensuing year. Messrs J. Bonifant, E. Cookson, G. Land and J. Stringfellow were elected vice-presidents, and Mr Rudolph Friedlander treasurer. The following gentlemen were elected a committee:— Messrs J. Bonifant. S. Brown, M. Bruce, S. Chapman, T. Digby, P. Drummond, Max Friedlander, J. Gilmour, J. C. N. Grigg, J. Heseltine, E. Horsey, G. M. Leadley, A. Leatham, A. M. Lyttelton, T. Mawson, R. Millar, F. M'Cafferty, D: M'Cormick, Daniel M'Kendry, Dennis M'Kendry, W. Prebble, C. Beid, W. J. Silcook, J. Small, M. Stitt, T. Taylor, D. Thomas, T. Tasker and D. Williamson. The balance- Bheet showed a slight falling off in receipts owing to there being no publican's booth at the last annual show and to the faot that the amount expended in prizes had beeu the largest that the Association had given.
