KAIAPOI v. NORTH CANTERBURY.

The match between these clubs was looked forward to with a considerable amount of interest in Kaiapoi and Rangiora, and several hundred people assembled on the Kaiapoi Club's ground to witness the game. Play began just after three o'clock, the Kaiapoi men having the wind in their favour. The ball waa quiokly taken to Kaiapoi territory, but the latter's forwards, by short dribbling rushes, worked it back to the centre, and M'Gregor had a ehot at goal from a mark by Templeton. The ball fell short, and Moir stopped Miller's return. Gray, however, got possession in somelocsa work and Bcored, Templeton converting. The North Canterbury men attacked, and Featherston Sived his side by tackling Miller close to the line. Play wes in Kaiapoi territory till Hanna and Forrest broke through a a Bcrummige and dribbled to the half-way flag. Moir, Bate, Lynekey, Scott and Simpson* joined in the rush, and a few yards from the north line Moir picked up and scored; Templeton again converted, and the teams crossed over with Kaiapoi ten points to the good. A few minutes after the kick-off Gray dodged through the North forwards and passed right across the field to Pearce, who passed to Oram, the last-named scoring. Lynskey failed to kick a goal. The North forwards, headed by the Wilmot brothers, Fitzigerald, Thotne and Duke, came with a good rush after the kick-out, and Dv Moulin marked at the Kaiapoi twenty-five line. He placed the ball for Wilßon, who kicked a fine goal. Another rush by the North forwards enabled Fitzgerald to score, Wilson failing with the kick. After this the ball waa rushed up and down the field, and in the last five minutes Gray gave M'Gregor a pasß, and the latter, after running to the North twenty- five flag, passed to Pearce, who scored; Templeton converted. No further score resulted, and the game ended in a win for Kaiapoi by eighteen points to seven. Mr F. T. Evans was referee. *
