SENIOR MATCHES.

LIN WOOD v. CHRISTCHURCH.

This match evoked considerable interest, and was a splendid tussle all through. Linwood attacked at the start, and for a while the Reds were hard pressed. A freo-kick Ist them out though, but a penalty against them produced a fjrcedown. Centre play was noted, and some excellent passing by Christchurch was neutralised by Linwood's excellent tackling. Play was very fast, but neither side could permanently gain much ground. Gradually the Greens beat their opponents back, and a force-down was noted. Tao Reds carried the first scrummage after the kick-out, and a lot more centre play followed until L. Harley made a neat run, and was seconded by his brother, who reached the Linwood line in Orchard's embrace. A sorummage followed, and Glendining dodged ovor. No goal followed, and three to nil was posted. Linwood attacked agaia, and O'Brien got as far as the Christchurch line. Kerr got over juet afterwards, but wa3 called back for offside play. The attack at last beat down the defence, and O'Brien got over after some nice passing. No goal was kicked, and the game was again even. Chriotohurch started the second Bpell without Humphreys, who had been injured early in the game, and was forced to retire at the interval. In Bpite of this handicap, they assumed the advantage at once, and kept Linwood very busy for along time. The Green forwards relieved by degrees,' and took the play to the Chrigtchurch territory. The latter by sheer hard and consistent work got to the centre again. A free kick, though, gave the Greens the advantage, and Hobbs ran to the line. The Red forwards by fast, clever work wsnt back once more, and Malet was forced to retire with a broken collar-bone. Linwood again attacked, and near the finish Cowlishaw missed an aok ward pasa and gave O'Biien a chance, which he did not neglect, of sooring an exceedingly clever try. Hobbs converted, and eight to three was called. No further ecore was made, play being even until the finish.
