THE LABOUR BUEEAU.
A great many ladies are, says thQ New Zealand Tunes, now beginning to take advantage of the facilities offered by the women's branch of the Department of Labour for the engagement of domestic helps. At first it was easier to get servants in quest of situations to register their names than to get mistresses to call and have their wanta supplied. This condition of things is now gradually changing in the direction desired by the promoters of the experiment. There are now about seventy names on the register, the applicants for work being chiefly general servants, housekeepers, charwomen, and nursemaids. Circulars are being sent out to runholders, hotelkeepers, and tradesmen in the country districts who are likely to be in need of domestic servants.
