AI/leged Attempted Suicide.— Thomas Turner (on remand) was charged with having attempted to commit suicide. Inspector Broham said that he wished to withdraw the charge, as he was satisfied that at the time the man was suffering from hunger and starvation, and had no intention to destroy himself. He (Inspector Broham) understood that the man's friends were prepared to make arrangements for his assistance. The charge wa3 then withdrawn. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) A Destitute Child.— George Thomas Horace Bunting, a child two and a half years of age, was charged with having no means of subsistence. The evidence of Constable, Dougan showed that the father of the child was dead, and that the mother had cleared out and had not been heard of since June last. Since that time the child had been licensed out under the Infant Life Protecbion Act." The Magistrate ordered the child to be committed to the Burnham Industrial School till it attained the statutory age. The debtor's ability to pay was proved, and he was ordered to pay the amount and costs within a month, in default six weeks' imprisonment. — W. E. Hacon v. F. Delahunt, claim £2 2s, for professional services. Mr Kippenberger for defendant, for whom judgment ■was given, with costß, J6l Is.— J. Bennett v. W. Dale, claim M 17s 6d. Mr Maude for plaintiff. The defendant admitted his liability. Judgment was given for plaintiff, with costs, i>l 16a. — H. G. Sheppard v. T. S. Sibbald, claim .£52, on a dishonoured promissory note. Mr Stringer for plaintiff, Mr Brupeb for defendant, who put in a counter claim. Judgment waa given for plaintiff, on the claim, with coats £5 14s. The counter claim was not allowed, as it had not been lodged within the time required by the Act.— G. Hutchinßon v. J. A. Bird, claim JBS ss, for services alleged to have been rendered in making inquiries at a fire at Southbridge. Mr Johnßton for plaintiff; Mr Caesidy for defendant. The defence was that the plaintiff had not been engaged to make the inquiries. Judgment wa"s given for defendant without coats.
