Road Boards. AVON.
The monthly meeting of this Board was held yesterday ; present — Messrs C. Burgess. W. Dunlop, W. Homer, W. Nioholls and G. M'lntyre. Mr C. Burgess gave notice cf his wish to retire from the chairmanship of the Board, having held the poaition for three years in succession. Mr W. Dunlop was elected chairman for the year. Special ordars were received from the Waimakariri Elver Board and Christchurch Drainage Board, levying rates of three sixty-fourths of a penny and three fartbingß in the pound. The City Surveyor and Town Clerk wrote drawing attention to quicksands in the drain on North Avon Road. The Clerk was instructed to meet the city authorities and arrange aa to what was best to be done. The Gas Company wrote, declining to reduce the price for lighting the Papanui lamps. The Commissioner of Crown Lands gave notice that B.S. 35647 would be vested in the Board. Three letters were read from Mr D. Stransghan relative to James Street, New Brighton. The matter was ordered to be attended to. The Clerk was granted fourteen days* eick leave, and it was unanimously resolved that the salary of the Clerk and Surveyor should be increased to £180 per annum as from April 1, 1895. It was resolved that in future casual handa should be paid 5a per day. Mr M'lutyre moved—" That a very hearty vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes to Mr Charloa Burgess for the great services he has rendered the Board as its chairman during the laßt three years." This was seconded by Mr Dunlop, and carried unanimously. The meeting then resolved itself into a Board of Health, and shortly afterwards terminated.
