ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
J. M' Anally, employed ac a bight watchman by the Union Steamship Company at Ly tteiton, bad a narrow eßcape from drowning on Sunday night. Ho was walking along the gangway between the steamer Corinna and the wharf when he fell overboard. He waa rescued from his perilous position by some of the Corinna'a company. Mrs S. King, aged eighty-three, who resided with her granddaughter, Mrs Taylor, at Fernside, was found dead in bed on Sunday morning. She was in good health when she retired the previous night, At an inquest held this morning, before Mr E» R. Good, J.P., and a jury having Mr D. Buddo as foreman, Dr Volckman gave evidence that death resulted from failure of the heart's action through senile decay, and a verdict was returned accordingly. The deceased lady was the mother of- Mr J. King, the well-known Government Audit Inspector, and she had resided in the northern district for a number of years,
