MES3RS FRIEDLANDEB BROTHERS.

The firtt meeting of creditors in the estate of Friedlander Bros, and in the separate estates of Hugo Friedlander and Rudolph Friedlander was held at the Courthouse, Aehburton, yesterday. Mr John Davison,the Deputy-Official Assignee, presided, and about sixtesn creditors were present. Mr Wilding appeared for the Deputy* Official Assignee, Mr Purnell for the bankrupts, and Mr Fisher for the Bank of New Zealand.

The statements of a?sota and liabilities filed by Mr Hugo Friedlander, Mr Rudolph Friedlander and Messrs Friedlander Bros, were read by the Official Assignee as published.

The Deputy-Official Assignee stated that he had not yet had time to go fully into the statements. He had been advised by his solicitor to test the legality of the assignment of the book debts to Mr Max Friedlander, and he intended to bring the matter before his Honor Judge Ward on Xuesd«y. He asked the creditors present; to appe ; - nt a aupsrfiso*. Mr Buller (Bank of New Zealand) proposed that Mr W. E. Cook should be appointed supervisor in the whole of the estates at the highest remuneration permitted by the Act. | Mr Purnell, on behalf of the bankrupts, objected to the appointment, on the ground that Mr Cook yras not a creditor in the estate at the time of the bankruptcy. He said that the promissory note, value £27 19b 3d, on which Mr Cook based his claim, had been purchased from the bank after the bankruptcy. The Official Assignee examined Mr Cook as to bis claim, and finally decided to admit it.

The nomination was seconded by Mr Uook.

Oa a show of hands being taken, three were in favour of the motion, and twelve against it.

The Official Assignee declared the motion carried, on the ground of the preponderance of the money value of the claims of creditors who supported it. An amendment, proposed by Mr W. J. Sutherland and seconded by Mr Joshua Tucker, to the effect that Mr W. Homo should be appointed supervisor was declared lost.

The meeting then terminated.
