ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

AUCKLAND, Apbi_ 17. Further particulars have been received concerning a lamentable boating accident which took place between Opua and Eussell, and in whioh a Norwegian, Christian Kjer, and hiß. young son and daughter were drowned. The party left home in the morning to see their friends across tho river, and when a short distance from the shore the boat was struck by -a squall. Mrs Kjer noticed the accident from her residence, and went to obtain assistance, but aid arrived too late to save the occupants of Ifie'fcbal*. ' A rather singular death, the result of an acoident, occurred at Paeroa,. the victim being John Stewart, an employe of Mr Cock, who owns a small farm a mile from Paeroa township. Stewart waß leading a horse into a yard, and in the darkness stumbled over a plough, the result being that he received a severe wound on one of his shins, where there was an ulceration. About an hour after the accident oocurred Stewart succumbed. At the inquest it was elicited that the cause of death was (syncope, accelerated by loss of blood and shook to the system. He was a single man, forty years of age.
WELLINGTON, A_bi_ 17. George Waddington, formerly a hotelkeeper at Ngahauranga, who waa thrown from hia horse on -April 4, died in the Hospital, jock jaw having Bet in.
