BOAT-LOWERING APPARATUS.
A telegram from Dunedin Bays that an improved boat-lowering apparatus, invented by Captain Cameron, the TJoiotf Steamship Company's marine superintendent, was tested yesterday on the steamer Te An&u, in the presence of the Managing I Director and others. Two iron standards | are ecrevred to the ship's deck. On one ia j a lever, which works on an eccentric ; motion. Pressure by one man on the < levee is sufficient to raise a boat from the ! chocks, the outside pipes being cast' clear i and the boat swung out. Tho f aur bridge | boats of the Te Anau were lowered in from ! ten to fifteen seconds. 16 is understood j that all eteamera of the fleet will be J fitted with the apparatus.
