NAPIEB, AwtiL 6. At a meeting of the Agricultural and Pastoral Society reference was made to the difficulty of inducing holders of small farms to compete at the annual shows. Efforts have been repeatedly made to secure their co-operation, and various echemes propounded, but all resulted in failure. Classes have been specially provided in the programme for settlers of this description, but they did not fill, the I reason being that^ the small farmers preferred to stock their holdings with sheep instead of crops. Notice of motion was given that prizes be offered by the society for the best kept farma of certain areas in the Hawke's Bay district. William Milligan was admitted to the hospital yesterday, suffering from a very S9vere soalp wound, supposed to have been received as the result of a quarrel with, a stable boy named George IPuszard, who [ was brought before the Magistrate's Court this morning and remanded till Thursday.
