Art Exhibition.

' ■ » — The fifteenth annual exhibition of the Canterbury Society of Arts will be opened in the Art Gallery tomorrow evening by the Hon E. C. J. Stevens, president of the Society. The exhibits are somewhat fewer than last yuar'a, and number 211. There are sixtythree exhibitors, ' most of them bem* Canterbury residents. There are seven from Duuedin, and one each from England, Auckland, Palmeraton North, Wellington and Oamaru. There are nine new exhibitors. The best known names among the old exhibitors are tl)o3e of MraSawtell, Misaeß M. 0. Stoddart.F. and J. Wimperis, E. Munnings, and Messrs J. Gibb, C. E. Bickerton, G^H. Elliot, Sydney Smith, J. M. Nairn, and G. N^rli. There ib the usual proportion between the oil and water oolours. There are, perhaps, not so many genre pictures, in proportion, as at the last exhibition, but there are two or three noveltie3 in the form of studies from the nude, by Misd Joe 1 , of Dunedin. The figures and heads sent by Mica Hodgkms and Mr Nerli are among the more noiable exhibits, and there are some excellent: specimens of the flower painting of Misß Stoddart, and of the work of Messrs J. Gibb, Sydney Smith, .and other well-known artiste. A noticeable feature of the exhibition is the fine collection lent by Mr A. E_ Q. Rhodes, displayed in the side chamber. .
