The MBLANEstAN Sc-BdiARS in Church. —A most interesting service WP.a held in Holy Trinity, Lyttelton, on Saturday evening last, when twenty-two of tho islanders from the Southern Crose, now lying in the harbour, came to the church for their usual evening prayers. The Eev A. Brittain, in whoae charge the lads are at present, said the office, the lessons being \ead by the senior scholar, another scholar playing the organ. The whole service was in Mota, and the paalms and canticles, as well as some Ancient and Modern hymns, were sung very nicely by all. Nothing could exceed the reverence Bhown by the native congregation, nor the simple heartiness c* their Binging and responding. Of course, the white people who wore present, of whom there were a good few, could not join in any part of the service except in spirit, but^ the impression it produced upon them waa great, and the eympathy awakened by the devotion of these converts from the Pacifio Islands was very real. On Sunday morning fifteen of the lads communicated at the eight o'olook celebration, and moat of them were present at the children's service at 3 p.m., when Mr Brittain gave the Sunday school pupils au account of the work o£ tht mission. About eight of the Melanesia^ W ere also in ohurch at eleven o'clock.
