" THE MESSIAH."
o Lovers of music, and oratorio -pusio in particular, may expect a great treat next Thursday evening, when The Messiah will be given at the Opera House, Tuam Street, with the combined forces of tbe NewburySpada Concert Company and Wells's Motett Society. Mr Newbury, whose magnificent voice we are now pretty well acquainted witb, has made a great reputation as an exponent of oratorio music in England, and during his Australian tour he sang the work in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide to enormous bouses, and at the Garrison Hall, Dunedin, in speaking of which tho Evening Star said :— *' Ifc must have been nigh to a record attendance. The doors were opened at 6.30 p.m., and long before the time for beginning every seat had its occupant, whilst in the rush for accommodation that act in the ushers were pretty well run off tboir legs. We have little doubt that a_ largo an audience wi.l greet them in Christchuroh as was the caee in Dunedin and the Australian capitals."
