A Quack Imprisoned.
[Pbb Pbkss Association.. AUCKLAND, Siet. 17. Beard, who prescribed a half an ounce injection of tobacco- for wormß, the administering of which caused the death of the boy M'Cnlligh, and who was found guilty of manslaughter, haßbeen sentenced to six months' imprisonment, withont hard labour, and ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution. The Judge deolined to> ad mit evidence regarding the successful treatment of other cases by Beard, remarking tbat he wonld not advertise the prisoner, and added 1— N A man has only to pretend enough to get others to believe in him." His Honor also mentioned that the prisoner had practised in other oolonie_ybut not haviug direct evidence he (the Judge) would not notice the fact in the passing of the sentence. The Court waa packed.
