Tbe Chinese, fearing the Japanese intend to invade the country, are ' mobilising a great force on the j frontier, and are trying to induce the j native troops in the garrison at Hong- ; kong to join the army. j Sept. 14. j Great Britain is sending four medical military officers to watch the armies in Corea. SHANGHAI, Sept. 15. The Japanese headquarter troops at Pingyang defeated the Chinese advance guard, killing 400 men. The '■ Chinese, however, claim tbe engage- '. ment as a victory for tbem. Sept. 16. It is reported that during the attack on Waihewai, and while tbe Japanese fleet wae approaching, tbe British fleet fired a salute to warn tbe -Chinese forts, and applied searchlights. The Japanese fleet retired firing. The Mikado bas removed his Court to Hiroshima. It is stated that the Japanese sunk the Kowshung knowing that there were twelve hundred picked artillerymen on board.
