From Adelaide— Silver Cloud, barque, N.C.TJV. j Captain Murray, of the fchoaner Aratapu, wbioh arrived in Port yesterday from Kaiparo, rtporta having come through Cook Strait with the barquentine Jasper. Off Kaikoura, on Tuesday, Captain Burton, of the Jasper, spoke the Aratapu, and desired to be reported. The barquentine is from Brisbane, and ia bound to Dnnedin. Tbe traffio on the Manchester Ship Canal for the five months ending May was as follows : — Merchandise in sea-going vessels, 211,915 tons ; merchandise in barges, 63,785; passengers, 323,050; and cattle, 979. The dues on this, together with ships' duep, returned a total revenue of .£33.701, which wai estimated to cover working expenses for tbe period named, the cost of maintenance being charged to capital till the works aro fully completed. The Bchooner Aratapu arrived in Port yesterday from Kaipara, with a cargo of timber, after a splendid run down the coast of three and a l aM days. Tho little schooner was favoured with a Btrong north-*ves_ wind for the greater patt of the passage, and Captain Murray took every advantage of the opportunity thus afforded him.
