The mottlily meeting of the Kowai Road Board was held on Sept. 6; present — Messr3 R. B. Hold6worth (chairman), J. Vallance, J. Mathers and T. H. Evans. Accounts ainout. ting to _8120 Oa 4d wera passed for payment. The receipts for the month were reported to have been _£86 lla Bd. A rale of a halfpenny in the £ was made and levied. The. rate book was signed and the valu .t : on roll corrected. The tinder of Mr H, Gror_ie wa3 accept d for contracts Noe. 108 and 109, and that of Mr R. Simms for contract No. 110 conditionally. Ifc was decided to invite tenders for forming part of tbo Sefton Swamp Road, re-forming aud shingling patt of the road leading from the Terraco Road to the North Read at Leithfield, and building a concrete bridge on the Sefton Road. Messrs J, B.yef, E. A. Hawley, J. Parker atd W. Brydon waited on the Board and asked if it would contribute towards thecest of constructing protective works opposite the parsonage on the south side of the Kowai, as if _on_e_hiug "were not done a part of the township of Leithfield would be liable to b 9 flooded. The deputation was informed that the Board would contribute if the vrotk were done t> the satisfaction of the Clerk to the Board. Coirespcndonce waß read :—From Mr D. M'Namara, drawing attention to the bad state of the road leading from the South Kowai to tbe Mount Grey Boad. Tbe Clerk was instructed- to iaepect and report to .next meeting. From tho Linwood Borough Council, suggesting a solution of the unemployed problem. Received. From Mr M. Whatman, Returciog-ofiicer, forwarding l'sli of deflations mado by tbo Amuri County^ Council in conducting the late licene.ng election of Ashley. Ifc was decicei to acknowledge receipt of the letter, but to state that as the Board had received no particulars of the account from the Amuri County Council or Mr Whatman, it was not in a position to give an opinion on the matter. From Mr J. Wilson, drawing attention to tbe bad 6tate of tho road leading to E.S 31051, near Mount Orer. The Clerk was instructed to inspect, and report to next u_e_ti**__. The Clerk's roport was read, several matters were ordered to be attended to and the m> eting terminated.

Fox, of Waikari, gavo an exhibition of Continental views, illustrating & trip mada by him through Belgium, Germany and France. Tho proceeds are to be given in aid of H orrick'_ Hon_e, and the lecturer louk occasion to commend tbe work of Mr-Herrick to the sji.ipathy and support of thoso present. Thiee hearty cheers were given for Mr I Fox. Tbo co. proceeds amounted to _M 63 Gd.
