Timaru Harbour.
[FBOM OUR OWN COEBEBPONDENT.] TIMARU, Sept. 12. Messrs Ussher and Hay, Royal Commissioners, have been engaged all day hearing evidence, and arguments concerning the Harbour Board's requett for sanction to make an extension of the harbour works. About a ssore of letters from masters of vessels and shipping agents in favour of increasing shelter were received, the masters laying etress on sheltering by«extension at the end of the breakwater and tho others upon decreasing the "range" inside. Several members of the Board spoke, some advocating a small extension from the curve in the work, two .or three preferring it at tbe end. Mr Marchant, formerly engineer to the Board, was examined, and he argued for an extension of 600 ft at the end on several grounds, and Captain C! arks on, harbourmaster, preferred the same starting point to shelter the entrance and kill the range. The inttor's examination had not been concluded when the sitting adjourned till next day. The original application waa for 300 ft extension at tbe curve. Mr Marchant recommends 600 ft at the end.
