Wednebday, Sept. 12. AFfEENOON SITTING. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. ANNIVaBSAEY HOLIDAY. The Hon Dr Pollen moved that the anniversary of the foundation of the colony should ba celebrated as a general publio holiday, and that in giving official notification thereof the date sbouid be Jan. 30 instead of Jaa. 29 as at present, ao- that it may be in accord with hwtoric&l The Colonial Secretary remarked that it would require a similar motion o£ the House before the present motion could be given effect to. BILLB FORWARDED. ■ The Timaru Harbour District Eating Bill and Oaths Aot Amendment Bill passed their final stages. HAMILTON DOMAIN. On the motion for tbe third readinir of the Hamilton Domain Empowering Bill, The Hon S. E. Sheimski moved that the Bill be referred back to the Local Bills Committee. The menabsr in charge had only struck out a portion of the first schedule, where&s. the Local Bills Committee had struck out tho whole. The Hon G. M'Lean supported Mr Shrimaki's amendment. The amendment of Mr Shrimski wag withdrawn, and the third reading agreed to. LAKE FORBYTH. The Colonial Secretary moved the second reeding of the Lake Forsyte Droinsge Bill, which originated in the House, and explained its provisions. The Hon W. D. Stewart would offer no opposition to the Bill, providing the Colonial Secretary gave an assurance that it- would go to the Waste Lancia Committee, i This assurance was given, ana tne secona reading agreed to. GIBBOBNS DABBOUR. * Sir G. S. Whitmore moved the second reading of the Gisborne Harbour Act Amendment Bill, which waa agreed to. The Bill waa referred to the Harbour Board Bills Committee. The Council adjourned till next day.
