THE PACIFIC CABLE.
t It appears from nn official statement usued by the Dominion Government (as ?l , °. fctawa despatch of Auguat reads) that it has been decided to abandon Hawaii as a port for the landing of the Canadian and Australian Pacific cable. Tenders are invited for seven different plans. Plan l invites tenders for tbe construction of a cable, to be the property of the Government, but to be guaranteed by the construction company. Plan 2 is for a cable to be run by a company undertaking to work it under the basiß of a .subsidy, the tender to stipulate the amount of subsidy required and the number of years for which it will be operated. The third plan calls for a tender for the construction and operation of a cable for a stipulated share of the earnings to be made by the company tendering. The parties tendering are asked in esch case to tender for seven different routes under three separate plans mentioned, the Government to regulate the amount of tolls to be charged by an Order-ia-Oouncil.
