LATEST PARLIAMENTARY.
[Special to the " Stab."] WELLINGTON, Sift. 13. FOEEIGN INSUBANCE COMPANIE3. Something akin to consternation has been caused among the representatives of mutual insurance companies by the clause iv the Foreign Insurance Companies Deposit Bill, which declares that j after the passing of that measure ! no foreign insurance ' company with limited liability shall be allowed to carry on business in the colony. This clause would affect the Colonial Mutual, ■the Australian Mutual Provident and other companies whose liability is limited to the Amount of tho policy, and would compel chose companies to abandon their New Zealand branches. A deputation of insurance managers to-day waited on Bie Treasurer and represented the flatter to him. Mr Ward, in reply, said the clause was not intended to apply to mutual companies, but only to companies whose liability was limited to the amount of their shares. If, however he found that the wider construction could be put upon the clause, he would uadeit&ke to have it altered in committee so as to make the intention clear. ALLEGED MISCONDUCT. Mr J. W. Kelly to-day gave notice that he would aak if the attention of the Mini&tar of Jußtice had been called to the alleged misappropriation of a client's funds by W. S. Cathro, solicitor, Eangiora, and if he proposes to take Bteps to have hia name struck off the coll. BANK AMALGAMATION. The Treasurer intimated to the House this afternoon that the statements published regarding the terms of the bank amalgamation were unauthorised, and must be received with caution. The agreement was in the hands of the Government, and would be printed and laid before the House on Tuesday next.
