[Special to the " Stab."] WELLINGTON, Sept. 12. THE SHOPS AND SHOP ASSISTANTS. A number of important alterations have been made by tbe Labour Bills Committee of the Council in the Shops and Shop Assistants Bill. It was resolved, I to-day, to strike out the clau3e empowering the local bodies to vary the date of the half - holiday. As the Bill now stands the day once fixed must remain so for twelve months. A new provision has been added giving shopkeepers the option of closing on Saturday afternoon instead of the day fixod by the local authority, provided tbey gi7e notice of their intention to the inspector.
