The money will be handed to the City Council to be handed to the Charitable Aid Board for Government subsidy of 24s for each &, and it is expected that some men will be set to work; under the surveyor to-morrow." At the Refuge yesterday thirty-seven men were provided with dinner, and there were thirty-four Btaying there during last weefc. Many of thd men will leave as soon as they can get a few days' work, so as to get clothes to go away with, hut at present they are only receiving their keep for the work they do ; even the secretary doea not receive any wages. Mr Lomas, local agent for the Labour Bureau, has received instructions to select twenty men for railway work at Whangarei and ten men for railway work at Eketahuna.in the North Island. Applications from married men willing to go will be received ab the Christchurch office of the Bureau from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow, and the selection will take place at 3 p.m.
