I The monthly meeting of this Board svas held on Thursday, May 3; present— t Messrs B. B. Hold3nrorth (chairman), J. | Mathers, T. H. Evans and U. Bristow. Accounts' amounting to £139 4a were passed for payment. The receipts since last rne« tin j? were reported to have been £132 Ids Bii. Correspondence was read and dealt with. It waa decided to invite tender's for leasing several of the gravel reserves, tenders to be sent* in for nesb meeting. The following tenders were ; accepted:— No. 100, supplying shingle for j repairs, Ataesbury Road, Mr W. H. Halo, ila Id per cubic yard ; No. IC3, building j .bridge on Duff's road, Mr E. Keeper. .338 i 78. Mr T. James waited on the Board with reference to the contribution proi mised towards protective works at Leithfield. He submitted a statement of hccoßntg, which ah'bwed.th'&t fcho work had coat more than was expected, and he asked ths memberß of the Board to inspect the work.- It was decided that the Chairman and coma of the members should inspect the work on Wednesday, May 9. The Clerk's report: was read, some small woiks were ordered to be done, and the meeting terminated. The annual meeting of ratopayers was held oe Thursday, May 3. There waa a small attendance, and Mr E. B. Holdsworth. Chairman of the Board, presided* The Clerk read the balance-sheet for the year ended March. 31. The total reseipts, including a oradit balance of .£1154 7s 3d, had amounted to .£2816 2s Sdi and the expenditure to £1457 13a 3d, leaving a credit balance of .£1328 9s sd. The assets amounted to ,£2367 3*, and the liabilities to £dS -183 -2d. - A report of the principal worko carried out during the ya«r was read, atid tbo expenditure on various roads in the district was stated. On the motion of Mr G. Bcuere, seconded by Mr D.. Cameron, tho balance-sheet was- adopted, subject to audit. A vote oi thanks' was accorded to -the members of the Board and to the clerk for their services during 'the. year. Mr R. B. Holdeworth moved— " That the ratspay era of the Kowai district express to Sir H. Mahler their sincere thanks for' i ha maay services ho has rendered to them aa a member of tha Kowai Eoacl Board during the last nine ; years, and tsuafc that his health may be sufficiently restored to enable him to rejoin tbo Board at a future date"." The motion was oaconded by Mr Bruexe and carried.; The meeting theu terminated. Depbebsion.— Depression in ttade and bad tiuies ate general all the world over.
