WORK AND WAGES.
The Unemployed:
. #F H. G. Ell, eecretary of the Progressive Liberal Association, has received the following reply to the telegram sent to the Premier a few days ago s—-" Tour telegram received. The Government is ÜBing: its best endeavours to meet the unemployed difficulty, consistent with appropriations made for the construction of reproductive works. Tou have already been informed that the question of o permanent solution of the unemployed difficulty will be taken into consideration next session. Tou are further aware that the placing of people npon the land goes in the direction indicated. In this respect I hope you will do the Government justice, for every effort has ; been made, and that successfully, to increase the number;; of /our Bett|ers. I regfretr thait y6nr wmmittee should have thought fit to protest againßt the tone of my remarks to the unemployed at Wellington, before having given me an opportunity of ascertaining from what source the committee obtains its information, Had yon sent the newspaper clipping upon which, I presume, the decision of the .committee was based, and asked me for an explanation, yon would have adopted a fair and proper course."
