Cigarettes and Shockers.
TO THE EDITOB. Sib,— On more than one occasion I have drawn attention to the evil of children smoking, and have suggested that our M.H.R.'s should take the matter up; but you know, letters have not the weight of editorials, and I quite agree with you, too, on the subject of " Shockers." I cannot see why they should not be prohibited from coming into the colony. The matter that many of them contains can never make children good, but, on the other hand, they can do a great deal of harm. Some parents have lost all control of their children, and I am quite sure they would be glad if the State would step m and pasß laws whioh would lessen the evils and contamination they are likely to meet with from the larrikins who are allowed to prowl about the streets. Hoping that other editors will follow your example and speak out with no uncertain sound about cigarettes and shockers until our M.H.R.'s pasß Bills for their abolition, —I am, &c, GRATEFUL.
